I feel like I put some really good points in because of this video so thank you. However, I don’t know what came over me, but I referred to a so called “Anne wevill” the whole essay😟 not Assia. How harshly do you think this will get penalised in a marking progress? I hope it doesn’t greatly affect my score. Thank you for these videos they have been a massive help.🙏🏽

      Hi ~ it depends on the question. You may get a variation of the following: how is the jaguar presented? / how are the animals presented? • @arjuntoor8270
      @arjuntoor8270 2 месяца назад

      I think it’s to do with hughes stating that Assia Wevill uses these sorts of excuses to justify her actions. Such as later on talking about nature, gods etc. I believe the Aristotle point is about nature needing to fill a vacuum with matter, so Hughes is saying that Wevill’s entitlement is so Severe it’s related to godly powers of nature and the gods. At least that’s how i see it. 🙏🏽

    Hello, can you please tell me whether this introduction for cat and mouse is ok? Thank you! Cat and Mouse, published in Hughes’ collection Lupercal in 1960, depicts a mouse hopes to make a break for freedom but doesn’t, for fear of being eaten by a cat. In the poem, Hughes uses words and images to strikingly portray the mouse by the lively description of the mouse, personifying the movement of the mouse and exploring the similarities between human and animals, and finally, exploring religious figures.

    • @EnglishwithKayleigh
      @EnglishwithKayleigh 2 месяца назад

      Hello! Thanks for commenting. I think your points are great. However, you may want to explore the personification of the mouse in one of the body paragraphs as this is a technique that is used. could you interpret the deeper meaning of the poem being Hughes trying to warn people away from suicide and suffering the same fate as sylvie plath as throughout the poem, as you said there are many words and phrases creating a sense of sadness. This semantic field however, is juxtaposed by the players not giving up and embracing these harsh conditions, seeing it through to the beauty that comes after. Maybe hughes is trying to say that this is what humans SHOULD do, Sylvie plaths' storm was her mental state and suicidal thoughts and instead of resisting this storm she gave in.

    could you argue that the connotations of volcanos built from the word eruption, and the connotations of earth quakes created from the words "shook the gulf open" could paint nature as beautiful and dangerous simultaneously which is a constant theme throughout many of hughes' poems. This is emphasised and built on by the words "core tore" which carries an internal rhyme which is melodic and satisfying for the reader to say but the actual description of whats being described is infact very violent which is shown particularly by the verb tore.

    In line 6 where ‘she too pursues her ends’ could you analyse it as that ‘her end’ could have a double meaning of the snowdrops general affairs but also the end of her life and death, which would build to the sense of hopelessness in the previous stanza when faced with the cruelties of winter

    I don’t really see how the point about “in that darkness camaraderie does not hold” is a point. How does that personify the sea? It’s not saying the sea has camaraderie or whatever it’s saying that in the sea there is no camaraderie

      Hello! Thank you for your comment ~ this is part of the extended metaphor that translates to the sea is ruthless/‘cold’. “The deeps are cold: In that darkness camaraderie does not hold: Nothing touches but, clutching, devours.” It is personified by given it human qualities - the ability to decide if it wishes to forgive/allow for life or destroy.
